"Tribes" was a short-lived TV drama for teens. It only aired for a few months before it was canceled. Unfortunately, none of the storylines were resolved before cancellation and it was never made available for sale on VHS or DVD. All that remains are some uploads on YouTube and our fond memories.
The storylines of this half-hour drama revolved around a group of teenagers going through the typical angst you would expect from a teen soap opera. In its brief existence, it covered a wealth of topics, including divorce, infidelity, date rape, pregnancy, suicide, and alcoholism.
Character Summaries
The Pressfields are the wealthiest family in Westfield. The father, "Big Bill" is a widow who has recently remarried to a woman named Pamela. His children - Billy and Chris - are having a hard time adjusting to this new marriage.
Melinda and Stacey Cox are the teen daughters of a middle class family. Unfortunately, the Cox parents, Virgina and Ian, find themselves in the midst of a divorce and one of them isn't handling it very well. Melinda is dating Billy Pressfield.
The lower class family is the Kubiaks. Matt Kubiak is the nephew being raised by Carl and Sophie. His sister Anny is best friends with Stacy Cox and has just discovered she is pregnant.
Daryl Johnson is the son of a former civil rights leader and admits to admiring political rights leaders, but doesn't feel the same fervor his father does when it comes to standing up for civil rights. Daryl is friends with Billy Pressfield and Peter Sego.
Peter Sego is introduced as a spoiled rich kid with very little contact with his parents, who are usually traveling or attending fundraisers. He can be sneaky and manipulative.
Lorraine is the owner of the local diner. She is in her early twenties and has a good relationship with the other teens. She dreams of becoming a fashion designer one day.
